coverage for you tonight. chief meteorologist bill martin is in the ktvu weather center where he's been tracking the storm all day. maureen naylor is standing by but we begin with jana katsuyama where it's been raining. in healdsburg. >> reporter: see how wet the ground is, all of that water is seeping into the ground and ending up in local rivers and streams this is the russian river. you can see how fast it is going. it could reach near flood levels by the time the next storm finishes. rain is drenching almost soaked roads. areas stream, rivers and low lying areas are flooding. with two storms down there's still one more to go. a storm watch is in effect. >> the storm surge is down 2- 1/2 feet below the bottom of the bridge. >> reporter: although water levels dropped today with the tide flooding signs remained in place for the next storm. concerned residents came out to see the russian river it rose 14 feet in 17 hours covering parts of johnson beach. >> this is high, very high. >> reporter: water crept precariously close to near by homes and one man showed us his dock swept away and

you know what it dash this is the street -- what it is. -- is the offramp. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> well, the victim of a hit and run in the south bay has died. it happened yesterday in san jose. ktvu's janine de la vega has been there since 4:30 this morning talking to people who say they know the dangers in the area. janine? >> reporter: well, dave this intersection quinnby road, the traffic is picking up. there are a lot of pedestrians in the area at that time when this happened. police say around 5:45 last night a man was crossing the intersection struck him and -- and was struck. his identify city not being released until his next of skin notified. police are looking for anyone who saw anything. police say it's disappointing that the driver acted so callous. >> it's sad that we have to -- you know, you have to obey the laws when you cross the street. obey the laws. >> reporter: we don't know if. victim was jaywalking or -- we don't know if the victim was jaywalking or was on the sidewalk. the speed limit on the road here is 40 miles an hour. we're waiting for a call

is something you expect for the next several months. reporting live in downtown san rafael. amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> along the coast, caltrans crews have been busy trying to stabilize a known trouble spot in san mateo county. the crews have been trying to mitigate the erosion. traffic was reduced to one lane between linda mar and pacifica and the north portal bridge area of devil slide. and in the santa cruz mountain crews are still trying to shore up vine hill road in scotts valley. county officials say restoring at least one lane is a top priority because it's a crucial connection to highway 17 and the silican valley. crews told us they wanted to get that lane open by today but now the hope is it will stay open by tomorrow afternoon. >>> live storm tracker 2, showers north of the area. san rafael as you just saw. you can see most of the activity the real heavy stuff is up here north of sacramento. it's coming a little closer. we head out toward the north bay. that's where the heavier showers have been. they've been moderate to light. santa rosa, but you see it's widely scattere

problems this morning even though it's clear outside. we begin our storm coverage with ktvu's alex savidge. >> reporter: good morning. a lot of repair work to do out here. la fayette creek runs underneath this street. it flooded. that's us what caused the roadway to -- that's what caused the roadway to collapse. crews will be using this heavy equipment to execute the sinkhole created yesterday, dig debris out from the creek that overflowed yesterday. it was late in the afternoon on sunday, when the soil eroded and the pavement out here just gave way. utility lines that were impacted, a gas line had to be capped, and suerers created a -- sewers created a bypass. now, the cause of this collapse was a pipe that diverts creek water. neighbors told us they could hear it go. >> it sounded like a big thud. a big really, heavy -- it shook the ground. it was a big boom. >> reporter: so now the city is working on a long-term fix out here for this area, perhaps they will put in some sop find kind of -- some kind of a rack so they can catch a lot of the debris that tends to run down the creek when the

area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> good morning to you. welcome. i'm dave clark. >> i'm torrie campbell. we are following developing news out of palo alto. police are searching for a man who reportedly entered a young woman's apartment. it happened early this morning. we are at the scene with the woman's frightening experience. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police say they are trying to be complete in this investigation. they have been here for the past five hours here at hawthorne. they are talking to neighbors to try to put together what happened. police say a woman in her 20s made a frantic 911 call at 2:20. she said she woke up and screamed when she found a man wearing dark clothing inside her apartment. that man took off running. police immediately started searching but came up empty. they are interviewing the woman. >> physically she is not hurt. she didn't require medical attention. that is the good news. as far as the traumatic incident and how it made her feel and the stress and being scared, obviously that's going to be a part
